New Talent Carlo Longo's Makeup for Flaunt

Bernstein & Andriulli newcomer Carlo Longo designed a beauty look based on radiance – "a sort of luster that evokes richness of a downtown/uptown girl" – for Flaunt's May issue. "It was all about the skin having an opalescence and reflecting light," Longo said. "I didn't apply any powder because it dries up the skin; instead I used a lot of La Roche-Posay Toleraine Ultra cream and the Japanese foundation Cosme Decorte [#302], which has a high resistance to humidity and provides incredible coverage, so you never look overdone. There's a sheen to it that mimics the shine of natural, makeup-free skin."

Longo elongated and rounded model Kelly Mittendorf's brow with Anastasia Beverly Hills' Perfect Brow Pencil in Taupe – "her face has sharp angles and I wanted the eyes to appear softer" – and contoured her cheeks and eyes using Prescriptives Sunsheen Bronzing Trio, Diorshow Extase Instant Oversize Volume Mascara, and a Shu Uemura eyelash curler. "I like this chiaroscuro effect that turns out nicely when you keep skin dewy and wet," he noted. "You can see where the light hits and where the shadow hits, and it creates such a strong contrast." Chanel Aqualumière Gloss in Rosace on lips marked the finishing touches.

The makeup artist was born in Melbourne, Australia, to Italian parents and raised on the coast of North Italy. He is the nephew of Vincent Longo, seasoned celebrity makeup artist, and was inspired by his uncle's profession to master his own creativity and broaden his horizons. He left home at 17 to manage Vincent Longo Cosmetics at Selfridges in London.

For the past decade, Longo's worked in New York City as product development manager at Vincent Longo Cosmetics and traveled the world for clients like Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Glamour, L'Officiel, Brooks Brothers, O: The Oprah Magazine, Self, Martha Stewart Living, and V Magazine. He has a talent for accentuating beauty and creating unique looks that enhance individual preferences and styles.
