INSA X BOSE COLLINS FOR LA MER: YEAR OF THE RAT
INSA and Bose Collins' latest commission work for La Mer supports the age old assertions that three creative minds are better than one. Mural Artist INSA partnered with U.K design duo Bose Collins, composed of Nin Bose and Nathan Collins, to create a CGI animation for La Mer. The result is equal parts fantastical, retro, and literally moving. Although the finished product may fool you, there were numerous technical hurdles to overcome for this project. Such as replicating the older animation style of the Victorian Zoetrope, using highly technical modern CGI programs. Bose Collins took much care, through shading, colorizing and texturizing, to ensure their version of Zoetrope felt authentic and also decidedly modern. The golden rat also went through many nuanced revisions until it struck the perfect balance between realistic and cute, without being too cartoonish. The multi-artist collaboration not only resulted in an exceptional animation, but was creatively refreshing for the artists. In the words of Nathan Collins: “it’s exactly what we do everyday, but we did it seamlessly with someone we’ve never worked with before”.
