Lisa Edsalv Creates a Visual Language for InStyle
Like the appetizers of fashion, accessories allow designers to take more risks. They can go deeper into inspiration and make more dramatic choices. Colors can be richer, patterns can be bolder, shapes can be unexpected. It creates dramatic variety and a deep range. When Lisa Edsalv had to bring together a full season of accessories from a dozen brands for a single editorial in InStyle, she needed to create a through line for aesthetic flow.
Using levels and broad swaths of muted colors, Lisa created a compositional language that supported each and every mini collection of accessories. From page to page we see everything from heavy industrial inspired bangles, to hand painted handbags, and zebra print heels. By bringing harmony between all these disparate looks, Lisa reminds us that these accessories all come from the same world and are each accessible in their own ways.
