FOUND STUDIO X LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA | WINS GRAND & GOLD AT NEW YORK FESTIVAL ADVERTISING AWARDS
Found Studio, in collaboration with agency Superunion, created the visual campaign for the London Symphony Orchestra's 2020/21 season, 'Dancing on the Edge of a Volcano'.
Superunion aimed to create something unexpected that really captured the emotive spirit of the new seasons' theme. They also opted to shift from the CG approach of previous campaigns and focus on live-action effects to create an abstract film.
Found Studio shot using the RED helium camera, at 5K, to capture as much detail as possible. They worked with dancer Ella Robson Guilfoyle to interpret the motion capture data of conductor Sir Simon Rattle's baton and translate it into a dance sequence. Although impossible to perform in real-time the sequence was broken into nineteen micro movements. Then the movements were edited together, and retimed, in post to precisely match the motion capture data. The fabric was processed with a bespoke echo trail, creating a flame-like effect. Additional pyrotechnics and practical effects filmed at high speed were also composited into the sequence. Resulting in an enhanced volcano effect and an epic final shot.
