Todd Selby Releases Third Book, 'Fashionable Selby'
This week sees the release of "Fashionable Selby," the followup to "The Selby is in Your Place" (2010) and "Edible Selby" (2012). "When I was thinking about my next book, I realized the fashion world naturally attracts the type of colorful people that interest me, so I decided to pursue that," Todd Selby explained. "I worked on it for three years and put in a lot of research and traveling, focusing on the fashion capitals: Paris, London, Tokyo, and New York," though he also made it to more unexpected locales, like Nashville. "Ninety percent of the images have never been seen before – they're not on any website or in any magazine."
The 348-page volume includes photographs of industry names like Dries Van Noten; natural-dye expert Audrey Reynolds who creates her handmade hues in Red Hook, Brooklyn; and Virginia Bates, the 'Clockwork Orange' actress with a (now-shuttered) "retail space unlike anything I've ever seen," Selby remarked. The cover features Japanese brand writtenafterwards. Yoshikazu Yamagata "is a great designer and has such a unique, insane understanding of fashion, which is why I selected that image for the cover," the photographer said, "but they're all standouts. I picked them specifically for this project ... it's a book of my favorites, really."
Copies of "Fashionable Selby" are available on BarnesandNoble.com.
