Henry Bourne Shoots Oscar Nominees for Harper's Bazaar U.K.
"The portrait sittings took place during the BFI London Film festival in October, and the venues were scattered across the city," Bourne recalled, "so I decided to shoot the portraits using a portable studio setup and link them together with a white background. I thought it would work best as a black-and-white shoot." Bourne created an environment where Ejiofor, McQueen, and Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac of "Inside Llewyn Davis" would be "relaxed and at ease, with as much privacy as possible, [providing] a break from their incredibly busy schedules."
His images accompanied a piece called "And the Winner Is ... " about the secrets of Oscar triumph. "I am a huge fan of '12 Years a Slave' director Steve McQueen and have followed his career from Turner Prize-winning artist to his recent accolade at the Golden Globes," Bourne noted. "I wish all of them well-deserved recognition at the upcoming Oscars."
