Pervasive Persuasion at MOCA Date and Time: Saturday, January 12, 2008 6:00pm - 11:00pm Location: The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA - 152 N. Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA Join artist Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, and Simone Legno for a special evening of conversation and artmaking inspired by the pervasive work of Takashi Murakami. In a panel discussion moderated by Eric Nakamura, publisher and co-editor of Giant Robot, hear how and why artists in Los Angeles are blurring the lines of media to spread their ideas beyond museum walls. Then, participate in a collaborative painting with the artists and a unique performance art experience by Oguri. DJ set; drinks and light fare available for purchase. Doors open at 6pm. $15 for MOCA members; $20 for non-members

Stephen Wilkes' Ellis Island Exhibitions
Stephen Wilkes Stephen Wilkes' latest photography monograph, Ellis Island: Ghosts of Freedom, will formally launch on October 23rd, at The Arsenal in Central Park, NY. Accompanying gallery shows will take place at Monroe Gallery in New Mexico (Oct. 6 thru Dec. 10) and David Gallery in California (Oct. 14 thru Dec. 30). Finally, there will be a book signing at Rizzoli Press in NY on October 17, from 5:30-7PM.

September 11 Remembrance by Joel Meyerowitz
September 11 Remembrance by Joel Meyerowitz To commemorate the 5th anniversary of 9/11, a selection of Joel Meyerowitz’s photographs from his upcoming book "Aftermath: The World Trade Center Archive" will be projected in the Reading Room of the New York Public Library with the photographer retelling excerpts from the 100 stories about his experiences at the site. The event will also feature a one-day exhibition of the work including an oversized 8’x22’ panorama of the Ground Zero site. For more information on the event go to www.nypl.org.

Joel Meyerowitz at The NY Public Library Joel Meyerowitz's black & white street photography is featured alongside Diane Arbus and Garry Winogrand. All played a major role in the emergence of street photography in the 1960s. Also on view are the street photographers of the 1970s, William Gedney, Roy Colmer, and Thomas Struth.
