Despina Curtis Reimagines Moooi London
Set designer Despina Curtis recently reimagined Moooi's London showroom with a selection of pieces that debuted at this year's Milan Furniture Fair.
"I decided that a good way of approaching the [project] would be to divide the showroom into an installation space, which could be more playful and similar to an exhibition, and a second space where the styling was more 'lifestyle,' to illustrate how the products could be combined in a realistic interior," she explained.
Curtis brought in cubes to create different planes for the furniture, looking to artist Rachel Whiteread's "EMBANKMENT" exhibit at the Tate Modern for inspiration.
She also devised a so-called Moooi language for the installation – comically large exclamation points as wall hangings, gigantic brackets containing a grandfather clock, and lighting in huge quotes. "Moooi's designs always have a sense of humor behind them and I wanted to accentuate that with the use of these symbols," Curtis said.
