Carlo Longo Flaunts It
Makeup can accomplish many things. It can highlight the features of a face, or cover what no one wants to see. It can add fun colorful elements that would otherwise be absent, or it can smooth and simplify. Like any artist, Carlo Longo has breadth in his makeup work. He’s able to catch any emotion, and tell any story. But Carlo’s signature is intimate intensity.
All artists collaborate, but unlike other disciplines a makeup artist uses a human being as a canvas. The collaboration isn't just implied, it is inherent. For his latest story with Flaunt Magazine, Carlo got to play off energy that was already there. His model, Heidy De la Rosa, came ready to turn up the heat, and Carlo focused and intensified it. Using rich tones on the lip, and a light hand on the rest of her face, what pops on Heidy is her eyes. Their focus, drawn away from the male model in the shoot, tells a story of a woman with other intentions and focus. It’s a chase.
The story of every relationship is the story of a chase, but it has to match the context. Artists like Carlo bring that context directly into a story, filling it out, making it more powerful. And making it more fun.
