Martin Morrell Covers PDNMartin Morrell's photograph covers Photo District News (PDN). The August 2012 issue is called Travel & Location. The image, of a man riding a motorbike in Burma, was originally shot for Cond'e Nast Traveler UK earlier this year.
The magazine also interviewed Morrell about his photographic style and how he refines it in different shoot locations. On assignments, Morrell focuses on the quality of light and how it can convey how each location is unique. He also makes sure to match his visual style to a location's mood and atmosphere. Morrell says, "The type of light that we find in a place is very much a part of the story."
The August 2012 issue of PDN is on newsstands now.

Martin Morrell Brings Floral Elegance to Miss Dior Ch'erie
Martin Morrell shot the still-life images for Dior's spring 2010 campaign celebrating the Miss Dior Ch'erie fragrance. The shoot took place at the Roseraie of L'Haye les Roses, a French 'Haute Couture' garden in the southern suburbs of Paris. Miss Dior Ch'erie is an interpretation of the original fragrance "Miss Dior." The Eau de Parfum has all of the charm of Dior in a fruity chypre fragrance, the Eau de Toilette is a fresh floral chypre enhanced with springtime notes, and the L'eau is a fresh, sparkling fragrance in pastel tones.
Shooting on location was very important for Morrell, the natural light and the lush gardens were the perfect backdrop for the feminine, floral fragrance. Besides the fragrance bottle, Morrell also shot the rose covered arch that appears in the point of purchase displays for Dior. The archway is blown up, cut out, and then displayed on an almost life-size scale to envelope shoppers in the feeling of springtime.
The Miss Dior Ch'erie Spring 2010 campaign is the product of several collaborators. Tim Walker shot the images with the model and Oscar-winner Sofia Coppola directed the television commercial. The full-scale campaign can be seen in print, on the web, in stores, and on television. Be sure to keep a watchful eye!
