Nick & Chloe and FWY Studios work together to bring to life the colorful characters of Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Mini line for Target. The line caters to children, from infants to tweens, and features tutus, plaids, punk pants, and faux leather jackets. The collaborative effort between the B&A talents mixes photography and CGI to create a fun, colorful campaign. Nick & Chloe photographed the campaign on the streets of Tokyo’s Harajuku and Akihabara (“The Electric City”) districts. FWY Studios created the 3D CGI icons that appear in the print ads as well as the original Harajuku characters for the television spots.

The campaign’s concept was to reflect the colorful chaos of the streets and to make them a magical place where strange icons come to life with Harajuku dolls looking on. The challenge was to capture the kids appearing happy and having fun while the heat and humidity were high and fairly unbearable. Nick & Chloe say they had great help from FWY Studios who created the dolls and the icons “with great graphic style and panache.”

The Harajuku Mini for Target campaign is out now.

Nick & Chloé collaborated with New York artist Ilya Lipkin, providing the photographic elements of Lipkin’s mixed media piece. Their photographs appear as outtakes or lighting tests from a studio-based fashion shoot. They depict young men, clearly assistants, at work on the production of the shoot. While they are depicted as random extras in the shoot, Nick & Chloé and Lipkin actually carefully cast the young men and gave them distinct creative direction for the shoot.

Based in Berlin will run until July 24th. For more information, visit the museum’s website.

French sensation Zahia Dehar is launching a new lingerie brand. To promote the line, Zahia and her team commissioned Nick & Chloé to create a short but provocative film, “Zahia Dehar Striptease in the Cat Cave.” In the film, Zahia dances around one of the chateau’s stately rooms and performs a seductive striptease that brings to life even a supposedly inanimate cathead sculpture. Nick & Chloé successfully challenged themselves to blend their poetic and slightly edgy style with Zahia’s fairytale-inspired aesthetic in the film’s pink fantasy theme.

The video shoot took place over the course of three days at Château de Ferrières in France. Patricia Clairet, a former film set designer, brought Nick & Chloé and Zahia’s ideas to life in the props. To retain a natural, homemade effect in the props, Nick & Chloé shot everything on camera and performed no retouching.

New Era chose musicians, artists, athletes, and writers with individual styles and who are making a difference and changing perceptions. Once homeless, Williams is now a pro skater, the founder of DGK, a skateboard design company, and a media mogul.

Nick & Chloé photographed Williams next to the Los Angeles River. The iconic river provided a dramatic backdrop for the shoot. LA based artist Kendall Faeth designed and constructed the ramp using found objects. The rough road surface made it more difficult for Williams to get a good run up for the stunt, but Nick & Chloé found him to be very patient and hard working during the shoot. Of the final image they say they, “wanted to strike a balance between a naturalistic action shot and a cinematic/narrative feel to the photograph.”
