The hotel is located on the edge of the 200 hundred-acre Syon House estate, the country home of the Duke of Northumberland for over 400 years. Seven miles from the center of London, the hotel will offer guests modern luxury in the urban countryside. Henry Bourne captures the estate’s beauty and tranquility for an ad promoting the hotel’s upcoming opening.

Bourne shot the ad on the Syon House grounds at night with a large-scale production team. The ad features a Waldorf Astoria bed sitting beside a lake to show how the hotel’s pastoral setting inspired the elegant accommodations. Guests will have access to the grounds and the gardens on the estate, designed by the renowned 18th Century landscape designer Capability Brown, as part of their stay.

For the March issue of British Vogue, Henry Bourne goes inside the home of design luminary Marc Newson and style maker Charlotte Stockdale. The married couple resides in Howick Place, a former Royal Mail sorting office. The flat boasts 120,000sq ft, 16ft ceilings, and windows nearing 10ft. The expansive space houses many of Marc Newson’s design objects. The grey marble Lathed Table lives in the kitchen, Marc’s chartreuse bottle for Dom Pérignon rests on top of the Low Voronoi shelf, and the couple and their children eat with the tableware that Marc designed for Qantas airways.

The house is very clearly under Marc’s influence, and Charlotte is more than happy to oblige. While their personal styles may diverge (Charlotte’s previous home was feminine, pretty, and full of family mementos), both agreed to avoid the stark, loft-like, gallery-inspired look at all costs. Marc turned to Swiss chalets for inspiration, noting that they retain their warmness no matter the size.

Marc Newson is a designer known for his futuristic take on objects. Among his many commissions, he has designed sneakers for Nike, a concept car for Ford, luggage for Samsonite, the interior for Lever House restaurant in New York, and the list goes on. Charlotte Stockdale is contributing fashion editor of Vogue UK and has consulted and styled for fashion companies such as Paul Smith, Dolce & Gabbana, Chloe, and Versace.

English folklore dates back centuries ago. Popular English folklore stories include the tale of Robin Hood and the legend of King Arthur. Although some traditions are widely believed and recognized throughout England, most folklore is specific to certain areas and each region has its own myriad of rich traditions.

Henry Bourne traveled around the UK photographing participants at various folklore festivals and events, capturing a diverse and colorful array of people. In his portraits one can see that British folklore customs are very much alive today.

The English Folklore portrait project arose from a discussion Bourne had with Simon Costin, the director of the Museum of British Folklore. Costin’s unparalleled enthusiasm and folklore knowledge has been indispensable. He campaigns for funds and awareness of British Folklore as he voyages around the UK in a mini museum that is an elaborately styled caravan.

Bourne opted not to include the scenery of each event. Instead, he shot portraits in a portable daylight studio, unifying the images with a clean, white background. You can view more of the kaleidoscope of portraits at Henry Bourne’s website.

Wallpaper magazine gets into the holiday spirit in their December issue by asking star English chef Mark Hix for a new take on the traditional Christmas meal. Yuletide dinner takes on a new meaning when it includes Moreilo cherries and champagne cocktails, pumpkin and ginger soup, risotto nero, snipe on toast with chanterelles, chocolate dipped walnuts with Armagnac, and emerald-hued Absinthe jelly. Henry Bourne captures the richness and brilliant vividness of the culinary fare for us to salivate over. Henry Bourne and Mark Hix have previously worked together on two books, The Ivy and Le Caprice.

When Zaha Hadid won the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004, her body of work was relatively small but showed great promise. Today, she has designed monumental buildings all over the world from Dubai to Guangzhou. Book publisher Taschen documents it all in Hadid, an impressive 150 page tome dedicated to the complete works of Hadid from 1979-2009.

For the first page of the book, Henry Bourne’s portrait of Hadid was chosen to grace the first plate. Bourne’s other portrait commissions include Richard Prince, Elisabeth Peyton, Sir Terrence Conran, Tom Dixon, Marc Newson, Katzuo Ishiguro, Matthew Williamson, Patrick Caulfield, Philippe Starck, and Vanessa Redgrave.
