Christopher Baker photographs the December 2010 and February 2011 covers of Real Simplemagazine. Baker has been collaborating with the magazine since August 2010. The covers have featured a range of subjects from food to fashion to the custom-made globe on the December cover.
Christopher Baker films in Cordova, Alaska to document life around Copper River, one of the last pure watersheds in North America. As overfishing threatens the delicate balance of the eco-system, the state of Alaska and various agencies are working hard to ensure sustainable fishing for future generations.
The story of Cordova is featured in the first digital edition of Martha Stewart Living. The “Boundless Beauty” special edition marks the publication’s twentieth anniversary, utilizing the Digital Magazine Suite available on Adobe Labs. Christopher Baker continues his long relationship with Martha Stewart, having worked with her since the Martha Stewart Weddings book in 1987. Featured above is a director’s cut of his video for Martha Stewart Living’s iPad edition.
Armed with summer’s best and freshest offerings, Real Simple offers delicious and effortless 3-ingredient recipes in their August issue. Christopher Baker continues his collaboration with the magazine, shooting the cover, feature story, and a new section called “Secretly Simple.” The feature story “3 Ingredient Summer Recipes” opens with elegantly plated raw ingredients. Prop stylist Jeffrey Miller set the plates on backgrounds of varying shades of white, off-white, and blue-grey, making a clean grid.
Each plate’s contents gives the reader a clue as to what’s in store on the following pages where the finished dishes are revealed. Comments Baker on the raw ingredient grid concept, “It gives the reader something to think about – it’s a little bit of a puzzle for them, to figure out what’s what. Visually, I thought it’d be more striking than continually shooting close-ups.”
