Brian Doben photographs the fall 2011 campaign for footwear retailer DSW. The campaign is themed around the idea that putting on a new pair of shoes brings a person’s fantasy to life. The fantasies of becoming an actress or a model are seen as reflections in mirrors, windows, and glass doors.
Brian Doben photographs Blake Shelton for the cover and inside photographs for Parade magazine. The country music star and coach on the hit NBC show The Voice spoke to the magazine about his love of Twitter and his big year. In addition to his coaching duties on The Voice, Shelton married fellow country music singer Miranda Lambert in May and his summer smash “Honey Bee” became his fourth consecutive No. 1 single.
Brian Doben photographs the Spring 2011 campaign for Monet. It is the first advertising campaign that the iconic jewelry company has released in over a decade. Monet’s 1971 ads featuring a young Lauren Hutton served as the inspiration on the shoot. Doben photographed model Cintia Dicker close-up, with fabric silhouetting her face, in reference to the style of the older ads. Of Dicker, Doben says she “exudes an uncommon blend of sensuality and sass, much like Miss Hutton before her.”
Brian Doben photographs the casts of classic tv shows The Cosby Show, The Facts of Life, Family Ties, and Welcome Back, Kotter for Peoplemagazine. The casts reunited at the 2011 TV Land Awards and were photographed backstage by Doben. People’s original concept for the shoot was for the casts to be photographed as if they were in a photo booth. However, instead of the usual white background, a darker background and larger set was used to make the images more dynamic.
Brian Doben has been capturing Nashville’s famous recording artists for over a decade. His photographs of Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, and Reba McEntire among others have been featured in People and People Country Stars magazines on several occasions. For his latest project, Doben has shifted his focus to the city’s up-and-coming talents. “Project Nashville” captures musicians who are making the journey towards stardom and hoping for fame like their predecessors.
Brian Doben photographs People magazine’s favorite country stars of 2010 for their latest special issue, on newsstands now. Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Dierks Bentley and the Punch Brothers, Brad Paisley and Little Jimmy Dickens, and Reba McEntire are seen at their favorite spots in and around Nashville. McEntire is also on the cover of the magazine. The locations either have personal significance to the stars or are of cultural significance to the city of Nashville, which is still recovering from devastating floods in May. For instance, Lady Antebellum chose 3rd and Lindsley, the bar they first performed at together, while Brad Paisley chose the once flood-ravaged Grand Ole Opry House, which he helped reopen with Little Jimmy Dickens in September.
Taylor Swift is on the cover of People magazine’s November 1st issue to promote her new album Speak Now, available October 25th, 2010. Inside, she talks about her fast rise to success, what makes her happy, and the autobiographical songs that have people guessing. Any potential love interest should not be surprised if he ends up in a few of her lyrics. She tells People magazine about her propensity to draw from personal experiences, “This is album No. 3, so I figure that these people have had fair warning.”
Brian Doben photographs the young star for the cover and feature story, the images reflect her easy-going attitude and girl-next-door appeal. The outdoor setting and feminine clothing play up her sweet and unabashed attitude. Despite her four Grammy awards, the singer admits “I’ve never felt like the coolest girl in the room. Ever.” Read the entire interview in this week’s issue of People magazine and buy the iPad app for a special behind the scenes video.
The O’Hare International Airport in Chicago is one of the busiest airports in the world, serving tens of thousands of passengers a day with flights to over 60 international destinations. Nearly half of the traffic in O’Hare International is operated by United Airlines, whose hub is stationed at O’Hare. For the fall fashion issue of Chicago magazine, photographer Brian Doben and Fashion Director Stacey Jones took advantage of O’Hare’s expansive architectural features to shoot the video and fashion story “Arrivals and Departures,” spending a full 12 hour day exploring the United Airlines terminal.
The story came to Jones as she was attending fashion shows in New York and Paris. Says Jones, “The concept was that the model embodied different characters – one being the harder, minimalistic bad girl and the opposite, more feminine, retro softer version. I wanted to shoot at O’Hare because of its clean lines, open spaces and tons of light and glass that would become an integral part of the story.”
A&E and BLT & Associates worked with Brian Doben on the print campaign and television spots for Kirstie Alley’s reality show “Kirstie Alley’s Big Life.” The 30 second spots show Kirstie enumerating her thoughts on life, love, men, and what else – food. The show follows Kirstie Alley as a single mother raising two teenagers in Hollywood, showcasing her humor and wit as she deals with weight loss and the pursuit of love.
