Photographing Shadow and Light with Joey L.
Joey L. has recently released his first book titled Photographing Shadow and Light: Inside the Dramatic Lighting Techniques and Creative Vision of Portrait Photographer Joey L. The book includes detailed case studies of photo sessions with 50 Cent, Pennzoil, the History Channel’s Pawn Stars, and also personal projects shot in Africa, India, and Brooklyn. “My hope is that this book will provide both serious amateurs and professionals a fresh perspective on creating compelling, dramatic portraits,” Joey L. says in his blog. The book is out via Random House with a forward written by lighting expert David Hobby. Head on over to Joey’s blog to read an excerpt from the book. Photographing Shadow and Light can be purchased on Amazon here.
Joey also collaborated with fellow photographer Cale Glendening on the documentary “Beyond” about Joey’s photo trip to Varanasi, India. Cale’s film follows Joey and his assistant Ryan as they complete the photo series “Holy Men”. “We decided to put it for free online. We want as many eyes to see it as possible, and nothing to distract from the message of the film.”
