Curated by Carlo McCormick, the show is a tribute to the folk art created by pilots in both World Wars by painting images and slogans on the noses of their military planes.

Firestone and McCormick started the project by traveling to the Arizona desert, where disused Air Force planes are stored, and collecting a wide range of cones in various shapes and sizes. McPherson and several other contemporary artists such as Shepard Fairey, Ryan McGuinness, Richard Prince, Peter Dayton, and Aaron Young, were commissioned to turn the nose cones into objects of art. On her cone, McPherson created an alien-like woman with green skin and three eyes, against a backdrop that includes mountaintops, clouds, and a rainbow.

Bernstein & Andriulli welcomes Tara McPherson. McPherson is an artist based in New York City. She received her BFA with honors in Illustration from Art Center in Pasadena, CA. Named the crown princess of poster art by ELLE magazine, she has created numerous gig posters for rock bands such as Beck, Modest Mouse, and Melvins. Her art also includes creating toys with companies like Kid Robot, Dark Horse, and Toy2R, comics and covers for DC Vertigo, and advertising and editorial illustrations for companies such as Wieden+Kennedy, Spin Magazine, Esquire, Vanity Fair, Playboy, Sony Magazine, Bust, Magnet, Elle, and Marie Claire.

Nose Art will run at The Eric Firestone Gallery until August 21st. For more information visit the gallery’s website.

Sarah and Chris Rhoads are a husband and wife photography team who travel and work in a variety of unique environments. Explorers to the core, they see the world for all its beauty, humor and whimsy. Chris’ love for photography grew from having a camera in tow while touring throughout the world as a bass player. Sarah has always had a natural affinity and curiosity for people and stories; and says photography chose her at an early age. They are excited about creating imaginative imagery for their clients and do so with a great deal of passion, charisma, and excitement.

Bernstein & Andriulli is pleased to welcome photographer Chris Opel. Opel’s work has been featured in Elle, Vogue, D, Vanidad Commons And Sense, YesPlease and various other magazines throughout the world. Born and raised in Southern California, his work has been inspired by the free-spirited energy of the 70s and 80s. He attempts to capture this vibe in his fashion and lifestyle work by traveling to beautiful locations and shooting models doing the things they love to do while being themselves. Opel focuses on capturing authentic and natural images of real moments in real time.

Opel is inspired by fellow photographers Bruce Weber, Jock Sturges, Jay Maisel, and David Hamilton. He received his BFA in Fine Art and also holds a BA in Graphic Design from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, B.C.

New artist Shotopop works with JWT Paris to create fairytale illustrations for the new Hydralin campaign. The French cosmetics company markets themselves as a company that caters to all ages. The campaign consists of four images reflecting different age segments, with a fifth image that contains the entire range.

Shotopop drew inspiration from classic fairy tales for the feminine look. Less is more when it came to balancing the mix of illustration and photography for a harmonious composition. Shotopop comments, “They wanted the models to be the main focus, so the illustrations were to be made quite subtle, and we were asked to try to nail the look by using as few elements as possible.”

The campaign is being shown now in French out-of-home ads and print media.

School of Seven Bells is making waves on the music scene with their new album “Disconnect from Desire.” Also known as simply SVIIB, the band consists of Benjamin Curtis and twin sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza. Formerly, Curtis was in the band Secret Machines and Alejandra and Claudia were in On-Air Library!. Their bands met while on tour in 2004 and by 2006 the School of Seven Bells was solidly formed. The band name was inspired by a legendary pickpocket academy in South America.

Bernstein & Andriulli welcomes Abbey Drucker, who recently collaborated with School of Seven Bells for a portrait series and short film. Both will be featured on Vmagazine.com. Drucker prepared for the shoot by listening to SVIIB every day for several weeks. Says Drucker, “My main focus was to capture the lightness and beauty of Claudia and Alejandra’s vocals along with bands texture of instrument. I wanted to experiment the day of the shoot and feel the free form you absorb when you listen to the album.”

The portraits and film were shot in Hudson, New York, from sunrise to sunset. Comments Drucker, “There is something very calming about Alejandra, Claudia and Bejamin as a band. I wanted to make sure that came through in the visuals of the film. After a few meetings with the Benjamin, Claudia and Alejandra we were all in the same direction – light and mystical with a location in the dark woods into sunset.”

SVIIB is currently on tour, check the band’s myspace for more tour dates.
