The exhibition is the first in an upcoming series of artistic collaborations throughout 2012 that honor the launch of the Polaroid Classic line. The new product line celebrates the seventy-five year legacy of the instant film and camera company.

The photographs in the show were captured with the last original Polaroid Spectra film production from 2008. Baseman explains his image process as, “I wanted to use the camera the way I originally used such a device in the 1970s and 80s…to capture an immediate memory. My art is about discovering one’s “True Self,” and Polaroid cameras have been an important tool in assisting in this truth-finding and free expression.”

“Instant Revolution” opens at Impossible Project Space NYC on February 9th. Find out more information about the show here.

Weber shot Jessica Findlay-Brown, Laura Carmichael, and Michelle Dockery, who portray the Crawley daughters, in a crumbling Georgian mansion in London’s West End.

Every year, The Society of Illustrators honors the best achievements in illustration from the past year in an exhibition. B&A’s John Hendrix and Andrew Bannecker are among those selected this year for “Illustration 54: America’s Original Annual of Illustration.” The jury selected nine of Hendrix’s illustrations and eight of those will be exhibited across all the categories. Two of Bannecker’s illustrations were selected.

Hendrix’s work represents a wide range in his professional life, advertising campaigns, children’s books and editorial work with clients including AT&T, Rolling Stone and Random House. Three of his illustrations for A Boy Called Dickens, a type piece, and a Rolling Stone trivia series are in the show. Hendrix says it is always an honor to be a part of the annual show but that this year is “particularly special,” for the number of his pieces included.

Bannecker’s two pieces for the show are a non-commissioned illustration called “Night Falls” and an advertising piece called “Wish.” “Wish” was created for the American Cancer Society. The piece represents “the birthdays that cancer survivors are celebrating thanks to cancer research.”

The Society of Illustrators Annual Show will open on January 4th, 2012.

Invited by art connoisseur Anna Lüpertz, daughter of Markus Lüpertz, Olaf sees the show as a great opportunity to show work tailored to the fine art world specifically. According to Olaf, he’s able to “push limits with the fine art side, which then influences the illustration work.” New areas and possibilities are explored, which allows clients to see what is achievable as well.

He’s quite excited to work with Anna saying that she “has worked with some of Berlin’s most influential artists and galleries and I’m very excited for the collaboration.”

Olaf’s previous show in Berlin drew around one thousand attendees, which speaks to his growing popularity as well as the city’s thriving art scene.

His next exhibition in the US will be at the Armory in New York City in April 2012.

Marcus Bleasdale exhibits photographs from his decade of photojournalism in two new shows in New York. A solo show of his work from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is on at Anastasia Photo on the Lower East Side. He is also part of the group show, “Beyond Words: Photography in The New Yorker” at Howard Greenberg Gallery.

Bleasdale’s self-titled show at Anastasia Photo is from ten years of recording the daily life of a country in a brutal civil war. In classic black and white, the photographs in the show put the focus on the country’s children, many of them orphans. Bleasdale captured them swimming, showering, sitting behind a mosquito net for a doctor, and riding a bike with a rifle slung over their shoulder. In an effort to further the discussion about the events the photographs depict, Anastasia Photo couples each exhibition with a philanthropic organization. For Bleasdale’s show they will be donating an orphanage in Congo. Bleasdale says of the exhibition, “I am thrilled with the exhibit in Anastasia Photo and even more thrilled that the gallery breaks the mould and sponsors a charity with the gallery sales. This time an orphanage in Eastern Congo I helped finance is the choice, and I really hope the images it has taken over 10 years to produce will go towards helping the 130 kids in St Kizito.”

Elisabeth Biondi, the former visuals editor at The New Yorker, curates the group show at Howard Greenberg Gallery. The magazine only started publishing photographs in 1992 and Biondi was hired in 1996 to expand the magazine’s photgraphy. The exhibition includes work from staff photographers, portrait photographers, photojournalists, and a historical section of rarely seen photographs. Bleasdale’s photograph of refugees in the Darfur region of Sudan is included in the photojournalism section. He says of the show, “it is such an honor to be a part of this extraordinary collection of images from the New Yorker curated by Elisabeth Bioni. She is one of the most significant directors of photography of our time and to be included in this show was nothing less than a privilege.”

The show features a total of 52 works from the past decade. Photographs from Schnabel’s most well known series “Nightscapes,” are part of the show. The series includes images of mountains, ocean waves, and most recently museum interiors, taken at night. The newer works portray how art pieces are lighted and rest at nighttime.

The show also includes work from Schnabel’s new series “White Land.” The images of winter landscapes explore the line between abstraction and distinction. Schnabel wanted it to be a challenge for viewers to see what is pictured in each image.

Michael Schnabel’s show will run until November 6th at the Osthaus Museum. Find out more information on the museum’s website.

The art spans over four decades and represents music legends such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston, and Bob Dylan. The exhibit will also include rock and roll memorabilia and ephemera on loan from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio.

John Hendrix’s featured illustration is his first for the magazine, for the Beastie Boys’ 2004 album “To The Five Boroughs.” The album had post-9/11 themes and Hendrix chose to highlight them and the band’s native New York setting in the artwork. The band is seen standing over Downtown Manhattan, facing the Statue of Liberty, whose torch has been replaced by a microphone.

Yuko Shimizu’s illustration in the show is for Garbage’s 2005 album “Bleed Like Me”. Lead singer Shirley Manson is seen front and center, with the stripes of her outfit bleeding out into the background where her bandmates appear in black, each holding a heart.

Two of Gary Baseman’s illustrations for Rolling Stone are included in the show. The first was for Fiona Apple’s 1999 album “When the Pawn…” The second was for Sheryl Crow’s self-titled album from 1996. They are both acrylic on canvas.

“Rolling Stone and the Art of the Record Review” is on now at The Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators. The museum will hold an opening reception tonight at 6:30 pm. The show will run until October 22nd. The series includes eight photographs of New York City locations taken over the course of 10-15 hours from the same perspective, as the camera remained stationary. It is the first time the photographs will be exhibited together as a series.

Wilkes created the first image in the series, of the High Line, back in 2009 while on assignment for New York Magazine. Since then he has captured Washington Square Park, Times Square, Park Avenue, Central Park, Flatiron, Gramercy Park, and most recently, Coney Island. Wilkes focuses on one scene at each location and captures it over and over, averaging around 1,000 images a shoot. The images are later blended together in Photoshop to create the final photograph.

“Day to Night” opens tonight at ClampArt Gallery, with a reception from 6-8 pm. The show will run until October 29th. Visit the gallery’s website for more information.

Tara McPherson will exhibit at The Eric Firestone Gallery as part of the group show Nose Art, opening today in East Hampton. Curated by Carlo McCormick, the show is a tribute to the folk art created by pilots in both World Wars by painting images and slogans on the noses of their military planes.

Firestone and McCormick started the project by traveling to the Arizona desert, where disused Air Force planes are stored, and collecting a wide range of cones in various shapes and sizes. McPherson and several other contemporary artists such as Shepard Fairey, Ryan McGuinness, Richard Prince, Peter Dayton, and Aaron Young, were commissioned to turn the nose cones into objects of art. On her cone, McPherson created an alien-like woman with green skin and three eyes, against a backdrop that includes mountaintops, clouds, and a rainbow.

Bernstein & Andriulli welcomes Tara McPherson. McPherson is an artist based in New York City. She received her BFA with honors in Illustration from Art Center in Pasadena, CA. Named the crown princess of poster art by ELLE magazine, she has created numerous gig posters for rock bands such as Beck, Modest Mouse, and Melvins. Her art also includes creating toys with companies like Kid Robot, Dark Horse, and Toy2R, comics and covers for DC Vertigo, and advertising and editorial illustrations for companies such as Wieden+Kennedy, Spin Magazine, Esquire, Vanity Fair, Playboy, Sony Magazine, Bust, Magnet, Elle, and Marie Claire.

Nose Art will run at The Eric Firestone Gallery until August 21st. For more information visit the gallery’s website.

TEDx is an individual initiative based on the TED conferences that bring together people in the community to share ideas and collaborations. Warren’s photographs were displayed for the conference’s participants to view before they began the panel discussions.

“Somebodies” is Warren’s ongoing photographic project about people and the stuff they love. The people featured were asked to bring something—living, dead, or somewhere in between—that has a significant meaning to them and to tell the story of their relationship with it. For example, a man explains how now that his wife has passed away, the Kleenexes that she used to leave around the house no longer annoy him but rather remind him of her.

Warren’s photographs were chosen for TEDx Boston as everyone featured is from the New England area. The exhibition was a chance for him to meet new people interested in sharing their story for the project. Warren hopes to expand the project to include over 200 people.

Nick & Chloé collaborated with New York artist Ilya Lipkin, providing the photographic elements of Lipkin’s mixed media piece. Their photographs appear as outtakes or lighting tests from a studio-based fashion shoot. They depict young men, clearly assistants, at work on the production of the shoot. While they are depicted as random extras in the shoot, Nick & Chloé and Lipkin actually carefully cast the young men and gave them distinct creative direction for the shoot.

Based in Berlin will run until July 24th. For more information, visit the museum’s website.
