LG’s “Life’s Good” is a global marketing campaign to promote LG products through good news. The lynchpin of the campaign is “Gil” the fuzzy and happy LG Good News Ambassador currently living on a 47ft tall wrap-around HD billboard in Times Square. Bigshot Toyworks created the character design for Gil in partnership with Young & Rubicam and North Kingdom. The campaign incorporates a mix of good news from RSS feeds and text or tweet messages sent by passersby. Gil’s behavior changes as he responds and reacts to the messages broadcast on the billboard.

LG Electronics recently launched the LG Optimus, an Android-powdered smartphone that synchronizes with all Google mobile services. The LG Optimus aims to be less intimidating and more user-friendly to first-time smartphone users. Says Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, “This is a device that was designed for regular people who want to jump into the smartphone experience but have been hesitant to do so because of the learning curve.”
Serial Cut demonstrates the features of the LG Optimus with a 3D illustration in the international campaign by BBH Singapore. A pop-up accordion unfolds behind the phone, each panel representing a different capability. The phone is G-mail and social networking friendly, and perhaps the most unique feature is Wikitude: a mobile application that uses Augmented Reality.

With advertising pages down considerably from last year, magazine publishers have been looking for new ways to boost ad sales. In the latest trend, publishers are creating custom ads for each of their publications. Hearst publications worked with LG Electronics using Mark Lund’s work shot with Y & R to create a customized ad that was featured in a recent New York Times article. Look for the ad in the October issue of House Beautiful.
