Michael Warren was on hand to witness some of the shenanigans going on at the Summer Redneck Games in Dublin, Georgia. Warren has always been curious about his subjects and passionate about telling the stories of real people. One of his eye-catching images of a woman being baptized in mud was chosen as a winner in the Unpublished category of the Communication Arts 2009 Photography Annual.

If it wasn’t for a professor at the University of Kansas who asked to see John Hendrix‘s sketchbook, Hendrix might still be laboring over his tightly-wound, dry-brush paintings that he saw as “serious art.” At grad school at SVA, instructors noticed the off-the-cuff sense of humor in his drawings and once again encouraged him to put down the paintbrush. Nowadays, Hendrix has free reign with ultra-thin pens and fluid acrylics to produce the rich, detailed illustrations that depict the tumultuous and apocalyptic scenes he is known for.
