Joey L. photographs cultural taboos for a new campaign for the National Geographic Channel. The campaign promotes the new season of the channel’s documentary series Taboo. The show explores customs or practices that are acceptable in some cultures but are forbidden, illegal, or shocking in others. The featured ad depicts “puppy play,” which involves subjects who enjoy dressing up as dogs and getting in touch with their deep animalistic instincts.
Ars Thanea’s project for HBO Asia won Silver at the 2012 PromaxBDA Awards. The annual competition honors the best media marketing from the past year. Ars Thanea was awarded in the Global Excellence Promotion, Marketing and Design-Print category. The winners were honored at a conference in Los Angeles in June.
Tom Corbett captures the attitude of a modern Miami bombshell in this month’s issue of UK Cosmo, on newsstands now. The outcome is a colorful and voyeuristic six-page fashion story, which is the third of the four in the Miami series. The fashion is a nod to the 20′s, as Corbett showcases clothing made of beads, fringe, and sequins.
Shotopop worked with TBWA Shanghai to create an unconventional media piece for Adidas as part of their ClimaCool campaign. The pair created a mixed media collage of London and integrated pack shots of the shoe and David Beckham to create a dynamic, layered pop up in just 72 hours.

Jason Madara photographs entrepreneur Justin Kan for the July/August 2012 issue of Fast Company. Kan is the man behind SocialCam and Justin.tv. In five years, his business plan has done four complete shifts as he tries anything to make it work. His career is profiled in the magazine’s eight-page story.
Jeff Nishinaka creates an elaborate and intricate sculpture for Bulwark. The apparel company specializes in high-end, fireproof protective clothing for industries such as oil and gas, electrical, and manufacturing. Nishinaka was commissioned to sculpt an industrial worksite completely out of paper. The 3D sculpture features a facility with oil derricks, electrical switches and piping systems, and paper people scattered throughout. The project took eight months of intense work by Nishinaka to create. The final sculpture measured ten feet long and more than twelve feet tall.
Diver & Aguilar’s campaign for A.K. Damm Beer covers a special edition of Lürzer’s Archive. The advertising archive is honoring the 200 Best Food and Drink Ads from 2000-2010 in their latest publication. Lürzer’s allowed their Facebook fans to decide the cover. Of the six images to choose from, fans overwhelmingly selected Diver & Aguilar’s Marie Antoinette-inspired image from the 2007 campaign for the Alsatian beer company. The photography duo collaborated with Barcelona-based agency Caldas Naya on the imagery that features the tagline “German Character. French Refinement.” The special publication is over 300 pages long and was released last week.
Joey L. films his father in a new short for Coca-Cola. The film, called “The Perfectionist,” features George Lawrence as he restores a vintage Coca-Cola machine. The elder Lawrence has been restoring them for over twenty years. What started as a hobby has now become a profession that has won Lawrence admiration from collectors worldwide.
Stockton Johnson captures glamorous summer fashion for the July issue of Vogue China. The ten-page spread is called “Grace The Summer.” Johnson photographed model Tian Yi in clothing by designers Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, Lanvin and more. The ensembles both contrast and compliment the beachside rocks, soft sand, and ocean waves. The shoot took place along the South China Sea.
Nathan Fox, Tara McPherson, Ilovedust, Kai and Sunny, Stephen Bliss, and Sandro Tchikovani collaborate with 1800 Tequila on the fourth edition of the Essential Artists series. The five B&A artists and Tchikovani created diverse designs inspired by Mayan culture, Aztec mythology, and Mexican heritage for the collectible bottles. The series represents a modern blend of artistry and quality.
B&A presents the recently released Journal Volume 2. Stephen Rutterford of Brooklyn Brothers beautifully designed the journal once again with the help of designer Annie Chiu. The great graphic cover is by Stockton Johnson. Look for it in the mail soon.
Andrew Bannecker, Olaf Hajek, Thornberg & Forester, and Rod Hunt have been selected in 3X3 Magazine’s ProShow Annual 2012. 3X3 is published three times a year and is the first magazine devoted entirely to the art of contemporary illustration. One issue a year is the international juried show annual which includes the best illustration in advertising, books, editorial, sci-fi, institutional, gallery, unpublished, and children’s books.
HAZE participates in a panel discussion on the iconic work of the late artist Keith Haring this Sunday at Brooklyn Museum. The panel will be moderated by art historian Dr. Robert Farris Thompson and also features artist John Ahearn and visual cultural scholar Dr. Martin Irvine. The discussion will focus on how Haring developed his own language system and applied it across artistic mediums. Haring’s legacy and how it has evolved over time will be examined as well. The museum currently has a large-scale exhibition of Haring’s work on display.
Shotopop’s intricate project for Alzheimer’s awareness is the recipient of two recent awards. The project for Raum-D, a therapeutic studio for people with dementia, won Silver in the Exhibition Design category at the 2012 European Design Awards in Helsinki and Bronze in Graphic Design at the ADC Awards in Germany. Shotopop collaborated with Ogilvy & Mather Düsseldorf on the piece.
Diver & Aguilar launch a new campaign for Magnum Temptation ice cream bars. This is the second time the photography duo has collaborated with Lola Madrid on Magnum. The 2011 campaign won the Epica Gold Award last year. Diver & Aguilar’s newest photographic creations were unveiled at the Magnum Temptation International Launch Event held in Ion Square in Singapore.
