Yuko Shimizu
Bio: Yuko Shimizu is a New York based award winning illustrator and instructor at School of Visual Arts (SVA). She initially received a business degree from Waseda University in Japan and worked in the field of PR in Tokyo for more than 10 years before deciding to pursue her childhood dream of becoming an artist by moving to New York to study illustration at SVA. She has received her MFA in 2003, and has been teaching the next generation of young artists at SVA since.
Her illustrations can be seen on the pages of such publications as The New York Times, The New Yorker, TIME, The Atlantic, and on the monthly covers from DC Comics Vertigo. She has also collaborated on advertising campaigns with such clients as Microsoft, Target, VISA Card, FIAT, Neiman Marcus and
MTV as well as creating drawings for The Gap t-shirts, and Pepsi cans.
Yuko was chosen by Newsweek Japan as one of "100 Japanese People The World Respect" in 2009.
