Dan Craig
Bio: Dan Craig, an artist with considerable technical command, creates pictures which are redolent with culture, symbolism and emotion. As a young student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design his eye was quickly drawn to the paintings of fifteenth century Flemish masters;Van Eyck, Memling and Bruegle among them. Their marvelous attention to detail and a quiet sense of dignified symbolic expression captured for him a timeless sense of the perfectly real. For Craig, it was the 'Ideal' world and he has been striving to achieve it in his work ever since.Like the Flemish masters Craig's images are brimming with emotional messages as they present the viewer with crafted, jewel like detailing and a deep richness of color. A Minnesota native,(b. 1957) Craig's commissions range from HBO and The New York City Opera to Broadway and off Broadway musicals. The New York Botanical Gardens and The Minnesota Zoolgical Gardens have employed his skill along with Fortune 500 companies; Morgan Stanley, ESPN and The New York Stock Exchange among them. His work has graced the covers of magazines including the transatlantic 'Der Speigel' and 'Stern' as well as 'The Atlantic Monthly'. No stranger to each of the major publishing houses in New York City his body of work includes many book covers--'War and Peace', 'The Count of Monte Cristo' and 'Treasure Island' among the classic titles. His award winning style has gathered many accolades including medals from The Society of Illustrators, two Clio Awards and a feature article in the renowned publication 'Communications Arts'. His work is shown regularly at The Society of Illustrators in New York City and one of his covers is currently traveling with the world wide tour 'Fifty Years of Der Speigel'.
