Biography [close]

Born in 1967 Nigel Owen has worked as a freelance illustrator for the last fifteen years since graduating from Central Saint Martins School of Art, London.

Initially working with acrylic paint as a medium of choice he soon began to become interested in printmaking, particularly the textures that can spring from Lino and Woodcuts. Eventually he began to realise that he could quite easily recreate what he was achieving from traditional methods by reassembling these textures as separate layers within Photoshop.

Despite a sense of guilt for abandoning the arts & craft traditions of printmaking in favour of digital means he now
is certain that he was right to do so. He now has complete control over his illustrations both in terms of colour & compositon. He can produce finished illustrations in a fraction of the time required for prints. Artwork can be emailed easily as high resolution JPEGs (the original Photoshop file remains unflattened on my hard drive
ready for any changes required by the art director).

Nigel is also a senior lecturer on the highly regarded Illustration BA degree at Falmouth College of Arts in Cornwall,UK
