Matthew Monteith was a Fulbright Scholar in the Czech Republic from 2001-2002, and the resulting images, entitled Cesky Raj, have been exhibited in solo shows at Galerie 779 in Paris, France and the Prinz Gallery in Kyoto, Japan.
    
    While a student in the Yale MFA program, he investigated the process of being a student by photographing his peers and instructors as well as the physical environment surrounding the school. The aim of the work was to reveal the ambigious psychology of educating students to become artists. The work, entitled Art School, was shown in a group thesis exhibition at the Yale School of Art Galleries in New Haven, CT and at Murray Guy Gallery in New York City in June, 2004.
    
    Prior to this he studied at the International Center of Photography and in 2001. There Matthew created a body of work documenting the final year of the school's residency on East 94th Street.
    
    Monteith lives and works in New York City.
