“I began taking pictures through the television by freezing frames from movies. I just loved to find and capture that perfect moment, which is how I view my work now...when everything is moving so fast I need to stop it. Take a step back. Inspect it. Make sense of it to myself. What attracts me to each moment differs, but I am very drawn to showcasing everyday objects in a way that you would least expect to see them. My images are generally very simple and graphic. Growing up in chaotic cities has taught me what to avoid in my pictures. I try to create an order within my images.“ Burcu
Born and raised in Turkey Burcu Avsar moved to New York in 1998 to pursue a career in photography. Burcu’s work has appeared in variety of magazines including Real Simple, Popular Mechanics, Best Life, Brides and Food&Wine. Her commercial clients include The Taunton Press, WaterWorks. She now lives in Brooklyn.
